A Logical Calculus of the Ideas Immanent in Nervous Activity (1943)
Warren Sturgis McCulloch and Walter Pitts' seminal 1943 paper introduced the mathematical foundations of artificial neural networks. It framed the nervous system as a network of basic logical elements that process weighted inputs against a threshold. The authors proved that these networks could perform all logical functions and equated them with Turing computability.
