Scope and Problem Solved
Conventional smart TV interfaces frequently suffer from intrusive recommendations and rigid layouts. OmarchyTV addresses this issue by introducing a lightweight, modular home screen inspired by tiling window managers. Users can organize their applications across dedicated workspaces, view widgets, and customize visual styles using 26 included themes.
Technical Architecture
Primarily built in Java, OmarchyTV targets Android versions from API level 24 up to Android 14, alongside experimental support for LG webOS. Going beyond standard launcher capabilities, the software integrates developer-focused tooling: an embedded Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, a native terminal-style Grok Bot assistant, and companion software connecting the TV to Linux or macOS machines. It also features a mobile helper app for wireless side-loading.
Audience and Maturity
The project is aimed at power users, developers, and homelab enthusiasts who want complete control over their TV dashboard and seamless desktop integration. In terms of maturity, OmarchyTV is explicitly designated as beta software (v2.12.0-beta for Android and v2.11.0-testing for webOS). Device-specific quirks and bugs may occur across different TV hardware. However, because it requires no root privileges and does not alter core system packages, users can switch back to the stock launcher at any time.
